Privacy Policy

Money Majlis is the podcast hosted by Suvo Sarkar, who runs moneymajlis.com himself, from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He decides how the information you give us is used, which makes him its controller; “we” in this policy means Suvo and the small team that helps him run the show. This policy explains what we collect when you use the site, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. In short: we use what you give us to do what you asked, such as sending a code, publishing your comment once approved, sending the newsletter, recording your GiveCard claim and sending your thank you letter, or replying to your message, and to keep the site free of spam and misuse. We never sell it and we run no advertising. We use Google Analytics only if you allow it.

What we collect, and why

• Newsletter sign-up: your email address, the page you signed up from and, if you pick one, the description that fits you (such as Banker or Investor). We use them to send a welcome email, then the Money Majlis Briefing, our fortnightly email of new episodes and GiveCard updates, and to understand who reads it.
• GiveCards: claiming happens here on Money Majlis. We save your name, email address, chosen cause, the episode and a claim reference we create, so that each person claims once per episode, only for the latest episode, so we can send your thank you letter, and so we can report what was given. We do not share your details with Goodworld, our giving partner. Claiming does not sign you up to the newsletter.
• Contact form: your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. Used only to reply to you.
• Episode comments: your name, email address and comment, and your city or country if you choose to give it. Your name, comment and any city or country you gave appear on the episode page once approved; your email is never shown publicly or used for marketing. We use it to confirm the comment is yours and, if we need to, to contact you about it. Any reply from Suvo appears under your comment on the episode page.
• Listener quotes: we may show on the home page a short message about the show that a listener sent us, or posted publicly as a review or comment on a podcast app, YouTube or LinkedIn, with the name or handle and city they gave. We keep it in our content system with a note of where it came from, and publish it only once we have cleared it for use. Nothing else from the message goes on the site. If you would rather yours was not shown, contact Suvo and we will take it down.

We don’t ask for more than these forms show, and we don’t build profiles or combine this with information from elsewhere.

Email codes

Before we save a comment, newsletter sign-up or GiveCard claim, we email you a six-digit code to check the address is yours. No account is created and no login cookie is set.

When you ask for a code, we also save the details you have entered in that form (the ones listed above), marked as unfinished, so your request is not lost and we can help if the code does not arrive. An unfinished entry does not subscribe you, publish a comment or claim a GiveCard.

To stop misuse, we keep a short record of each code request, including a scrambled form of your IP address rather than the address itself, and delete it after about a day.

Usage analytics (only if you allow it)

If you tick “Allow optional usage analytics” in Cookie settings, we send Google Analytics a record of the pages you view and what you do on them, such as choosing a player, changing a filter, following a link or sending a form, with the episode involved. Each record carries a random ID stored in your browser, not your name. We never send names, email addresses, what you type into forms or search, or advertising identifiers. The records go from our server, so Google does not receive your IP address. To stop, untick the box in Cookie settings and save: collection stops and the ID is deleted from your browser. Records already sent are not deleted; they stay in our Google Analytics reports until they expire.

Embedded players

Episode audio and video come from Buzzsprout, Apple Podcasts and YouTube. Nothing loads from them until you allow players, or press play and choose to play once. Once you have allowed players, a trailer may start by itself, muted. A loaded player can set cookies and see your IP address under that service’s own privacy policy. Why we are allowed to use it

• Your consent: the newsletter, optional usage analytics and embedded players. You can withdraw it at any time, and doing so does not affect what happened before.
• To do what you asked: sending your code, publishing your comment once approved, recording your GiveCard claim and sending your thank you letter, and replying to your message.
• Our legitimate interests: keeping an unfinished entry so we can help you complete it, showing cleared listener quotes, and protecting our forms from spam and abuse. You can object to any of these (see Your choices and rights).

What we don’t do

• We don’t sell, rent or trade your details.
• We don’t use advertising cookies.
• We don’t send marketing on anyone else’s behalf.

Who receives it

We use a small number of providers to run the site. Each receives only what it needs for its part:

• Supabase, our database, stores everything you send through our forms: newsletter sign-ups, GiveCard claims, comments, contact messages, unfinished entries and code requests.
• Vercel hosts the website. Like any web host, it processes your IP address and browser details when you visit, to deliver pages and protect the site.
• Resend sends our emails: your codes, the welcome email, the Briefing and the GiveCard thank you letter. It receives your email address and the content of each email.
• Cloudflare runs a spam check (Turnstile) when you send the contact form, ask for a code or reveal Suvo’s email address. It looks at your browser and connection, including your IP address, to tell people from bots, and loads only at that moment.
• Sanity, our content system, holds the listener quotes we have received, including the ones we publish. It also serves some of the pictures in our welcome email and the Briefing: when you open one, those pictures load from our website and from Sanity’s image service, which, like any web host, can see your IP address.
• Google receives usage analytics, only if you allow it.

The players are different. Buzzsprout, Apple and YouTube load only when you allow players or press play, and they then handle your information under their own privacy policies (see the Cookie Policy).

Only the Money Majlis team and the developers who maintain the site can see private records such as your email address.

Where it is processed

Our providers process information outside the UAE and possibly outside your own country. Our database, and the servers that handle what you send us, are in South Korea (Seoul). Pages reach you from our host’s network nearest you, and email, the spam check and analytics run mainly in the United States. We use providers whose data processing terms include safeguards for international transfers, such as the standard contractual clauses used for transfers from the UK and EU.

How long we keep it

Newsletter details are kept while you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we keep your sign-up record, marked as unsubscribed, so we do not send you the Briefing again. Ask us and we will delete it. GiveCard claims are kept, so we can honour the claim rules and report what was given, until you ask us to delete them. Contact messages are kept until you ask us to delete them. Comments, including any we did not publish, are kept until you ask us to delete them. Unfinished entries are kept until you ask us to delete them; once you complete the form, we clear what you typed and keep only your email address, which form it was, the episode, how many codes we sent and the dates. Code requests, with the scrambled IP address, are deleted after about a day. Listener quotes stay in our content system until we retire them or you ask us to remove them.

Your choices and rights

You can ask for a copy of the details we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete them, to limit how we use them, to stop using them, or to send them to you in a portable form. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time: unsubscribe from the Briefing with the link at the foot of each Briefing email, or change your player and analytics choices in Cookie settings. To make a request, use our contact form and say it is a privacy request. We may ask you to confirm it from the email address involved, and we will reply within one month. You may also have the right to complain to your data-protection authority.

Children

Money Majlis is made for professionals and isn’t directed at children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect their details.

Changes

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top.
