Mark Mobius is the fund manager known as the Indiana Jones of emerging markets investing. Born in Hempstead, New York, to German and Puerto Rican parents, he earned a BA and MS in communications from Boston University and a PhD in economics from MIT. After early work as a political consultant, market researcher and securities analyst, he became president of an investment trust company in Taipei, the first and biggest in Taiwan. In 1987 Sir John Templeton asked him to run Templeton Emerging Markets, one of the first emerging markets funds, and over 30 years at Franklin Templeton he grew his funds from $100 million in six markets to more than $40 billion in 70 countries. In 2018 he founded Mobius Capital Partners, focused on improving governance in emerging market companies. He lives and works in Dubai.
